Help Kids to Organise Homework With Our Simple Solution
Mum (11 years parenting)
I spent yesterday helping Tomos with how to manage his homework. He only started in year 7 a few weeks ago but the amount of homework is increasing every day and he’s starting to struggle to manage it.
And I can’t organise it for him. We just need to find a system that works for him. A system that helps him to create some time each day to do some homework without feeling overwhelmed that he hasn’t finished or not done enough.
So I’ve gone old-school because there is nothing wrong with a bit of pen and paper. We created a chart with all the days of the term and then using different coloured pens, we wrote down together what homework was due and when. And then in a different colour, we wrote down what homework he was going to do each day, keeping it to a maximum of two pieces.
Because the child also needs to rest.
I glance over because he has been on his laptop for a while now.
“What homework are you doing now? Are you stuck?”
“No, I have finished today’s.” He calls over.
“Then why are you still on your laptop?”
He finally looks up sheepishly “I’m just doing some extra Spanish so I can get more points.”
