Bonfire Night Activities: Keeping it Fun makes it Magical

Luc (Aged 6)

“It’s very dark in the garden Mummy.” I tell her, peering out uncertainly.

“I know.” Mummy is also hovering by the door. She looks a bit scared.

I wonder if grown-ups know all about the monsters who hide in the dark. Maybe that’s why Mummy doesn’t want to go outside.

I know she says that there are no monsters hiding in our bedroom in the night. But maybe that’s just because the doors are locked and they can’t get in? No-one said anything about them hiding in the garden.

Maybe I’ll just grab a toy dinosaur just in case. He is fierce enough to scare off any monsters. I hope.

“No dinosaur teddies in the garden.”

No dinosaurs in the garden? But who will protect me from the monsters?

Maybe a torch will work. I pick up one of the torches Mummy put by the door and check it works. It may have run out of batteries. Torches always seem to do that.

It works. I can shine it in the monsters’ eyes like a laser gun.

“Come on Mummy!” I call as I rush out the door, daring any monsters to come and get me now with my laser torch beam gun.

“Don’t shine it in people’s eyes!” Mummy and Daddy complain. They are getting the sparklers ready. I don’t know what sparklers are really, but Mummy says they are fun to do on Bonfire Night.

I shine my torch all around the garden, keeping an eye out for anything lurking.

“Ready. Come here.” Daddy lights the first sparkler. Whoosh!

Wow! No-one told me sparklers were actually fire swords!

That is even better than the laser beam torch gun! No monster is ever going to get me now that I have this. I swish it around and the light goes everywhere.

And its loud and crackly. I swoosh it again and again. Haha! Come on you monsters. Try and get me now!

“Don’t drop it. Hold it tightly.” Mummy calls. She is still looking worried. But that is because she doesn’t have her fire sword yet.

But I’ll protect her if any monsters come. With my amazing, powerful, best thing ever….

Oh, it’s gone out! Run!!
