Your School Morning Routine Doesn't Need to be Boring

Luc (Aged 8)

“There, now jumper. Let’s go.” Mum helps me get my school uniform on quickly. She also takes my dinosaur socks off my hands and puts them on my feet. Boring!

“But I used it for a volcano explosion for all my army men.” I complain, shuffling back into my bedroom. Now I’ll have to move everything, which will totally interrupt my game. Wait, maybe I could use another jumper to be a deep dark cave for them to escape to.

“Luc, are you dressed yet?” Mum calls.

“Nearly.” I call back, lining my soldiers up and walking them carefully off the volcano and into the sleeve of my black cave.

“Have you brushed your teeth?” She calls up again.

Honestly, there is so much to do on a school morning. And all of it is boring. Get dressed, brush teeth, comb hair, shoes, coats, bags – blah blah blah.

So much more fun to play with my new soldiers that I got for Christmas. They are in an epic battle with my dinosaurs but then there was a volcano explosion and-

“Luc, are you ready yet?” Mum’s back.

“Come on Luc, you need to get moving.”

“Mooing? OK, I’ll get mooing.” I say cheekily, pulling my jumper over my head.

“MOO! MOO!” I run to the bathroom to brush my teeth. Two minutes of mooing coming up.

It’s not easy to brush your teeth and moo at the same time but don’t worry, I managed it. There is only a little bit of toothpaste on the floor and it totally missed my jumper, so Mum won’t be cross.

I run down the stairs, still mooing loudly!

“I said moving, not mooing!”

“Oh, moving?” She tries to hand me my school shoes but I ignore her. “You mean moving, like this?” I ask.

I start to dance, wildly moving my arms up and down.

She looks like she wants to laugh, I know she wants to laugh really.

I finally take my shoes and start to put them on. My morning routine complete.
