A Playful Prankster is Born

Tomos (Aged 10)

“What are you doing?” Luc climbs up onto the top bunk bed where I’m currently hatching a master plan.

“I’m plotting my revenge.” I mutter darkly. A prank to end all pranks. A prank that will make them think twice about messing with the master. The master prankster.

“Revenge for what?”

“Daddy’s pranks.”

Where to begin…

“Firstly there is all the times that he goes quiet and then jumps out of nowhere and literally makes you jump out of your skin.”

“I like those games!” Luc protests.

“And then…” I continue more loudly “There was the time that he used a tea-towel to whack me over the head and pretended it was a ghost.”

“That was hilarious!” Luc starts giggling.

“But I couldn’t catch him doing it so I couldn’t be quite sure it was him. He is so sneaky.”

“And then on Christmas morning, you asked him to do a treasure hunt for our stockings!”

“That was fun.”

“Yes, but where did he hide them?” I ask Luc. Where did the sneak of all sneaks, the playful prankster hide our stockings this year?

“Back on our beds!” Luc rolls back laughing.

“How did he do that? He was in bed with Mummy the whole time. How did he manage to get two stockings and we had 2 extra presents that didn’t fit back into our beds without either of us seeing? How?”

“So, I think it’s time to play a little prank of our own.” My own little master plan that is sure to cause a little mayhem and confusion of my own.

“Yes,” Luc is one hundred percent on board. “What’s the plan?”

“I’m going to set the alarm on this clock for 6am.” Ta-da.

A strange look suddenly comes over Luc’s face, a glint in his eyes that I have seen before. The same look that Daddy gets just before he’s about to play his next prank.

“No, let’s set it for midnight.” He grabs the alarm clock from my hands and starts pressing buttons.

“Midnight? No, that’s the middle of the night. They might get cross!” I try to grab it back.

“And you can’t tell Mummy and Daddy.” He looks up sharply, “No telling. This is the best prank ever!” He starts giggling and giggling and giggling. The actual master prankster at work.
