4 Ways to Declutter your Kid's Toys After Christmas

1. Can I Sell it?

Sometimes it’s easier to get rid of things we don’t need by selling. It feels less of a waste when you know cash will be coming back in. And especially after Christmas when money can be tight, it’s worth taking the time to create a box of things you can sell second-hand throughout the coming months.

January is not always a good time to sell things as everyone can be strapped for cash. But fill your sell box now and make a note for yourself of when the are good times to sell your toys. Try putting them on seocnd-hand online market places or social media a week before any school holidays? Or if these are seasonal toys, try selling outdoor toys just as the weather starts to turn nice in the Spring or early summer.

2. Can I Donate It?

Donating toys are a great way to declutter your home without feeling like you are wasting perfectly good things. Keep an eye out for local charity shops looking for donations or children’s play groups, schools or nurseries.

It’s also worth seeing if you can create a donate box and fill it up over the year ready to be handed over between November and December next year. There are always people in need of cheap or free toys in the run up to Christmas that could benefit from toys that your children have grown out of.

3. Can I Repair or Recycle?

Sometimes children’s toys break and they get thrown into a corner. But they are not always broken beyond repair. Take a look before you throw away to see if it simply needs new batteries, or a repair job with a little bit of glue.

If not, try and recycle as much as you can. Some recycling centres take good condition stuff or have swap shops as well. So check their website before you head over.

4. Share Your Story

As you start to fill your decluttering boxes over the next few weeks and months, check in with family and friends about what options for donating you have in your community. There may be a family in need that somebody knows about, or a local collection that is happening.
