Easter Egg Hunts: What an Egg-cellent Idea
Luc: (Aged 6)
I love an Easter Egg hunt! The mystery of where they could be hiding. Are they all in the same place like our stocking presents were at Christmas? Or are they scattered? How many clues will there be? Who will find them first? Oh, I just a love an Easter Egg hunt.
What’s orange and sounds like a parrot?
“Penguin! My football is orange! A balloon! I just don’t know!” It’s just so exciting.
“Mummy, what do you think?” I whisper to Mummy. She is quite good is guessing Daddy’s clues.
“Can you think of an orange vegetable?” She whispers back.
“A carrot!” I yell as I start running. You’ve got to get a head-start with Tomos because he is fast, and bigger and older.
I deny all accusations of cheating. I have re-read the rules (which I made up) and at no point does it say that I cannot ask Mummy for help. Tomos on the other hand – haha – only joking!
Next clue.
I’m part of dinner, but you cannot eat me. What am I and where do I live?
Hmm, that’s a tricky one Daddy – there’s lots of things that can be part of dinner that you can’t eat. Like fish – fish is disgusting. And kidney beans – they are gross. And leeks – urgh! And chips, burgers, raisins… really the list goes on!
“I can eat all those things!” Tomos pipes up. Of course he can, Tomos eats everything. Apart from cheese – he hates cheese. Which is odd because cheese is one of my favourites. Mmmm, cheese.
“A plate!” Tomos got that one.
What goes up and down but never moves?
The stairs – I know that one. I think we may have had it before. I’ll have to have a word with Daddy if he’s using the same clue more than once. Standards are slipping.
What starts with an E, ends with an E, and only has one letter in it?
I’m not very good at spelling yet but we wrote a letter at school the other day and then we got to put the stamp on it ourselves. And then we got to walk to the post box and put them in the big red box and this time I could reach because I am big enough.
“Envelope!” got it. Daddy gives us a letter and Tomos reads it because he is better at reading. And because he really really really wants to find his Easter eggs.
They are behind the sofa. Tomos is happy now. He can relax. He’s going to open one straight away and eat some.
“Do you want me to help you open one?” Mummy wants to know.
I don’t really like chocolate though. I think I’ll have some cheese.
