1. Set Your Own Budget

It’s no secret that theme parks are expensive. But planning ahead can remove stress on the day as you watch the pound signs flying out of your purse or wallet. Work out what the essentials are for a great family day at Legoland Windsor. Tickets (obviously! But prepaid tickets are cheaper than buying them on the day), parking (Legoland Windsor has priority parking next to the entrance, which can be handy when you leave the park utterly exhausted), and food and drink (what might you be able to take in with you to lessen costs, like packed lunches and drinks flasks?).

Legoland Windsor has a lot of extras for you to consider as well: from ice-creams to other sweet treats, mini-games scattered around the park and, of course, the Lego shop. So it helps to have an amount in mind you are willing to spend on the day, and for your kids to know this as well. Then you can decide as a team where you want to spend your money. Why not take a prepaid debit card into the park with you, to put a clear limit on how much you can spend?

2. Plan Ahead

Legoland Windsor is big place for little legs! There’s a lot of fun to be had, but also a lot of walking and queuing. So we made the decision not to even try to attempt the whole park. We went on a really busy day and managed to explore three sections.

Make sure you explore the map ahead of your visit, so you can decide as a family which rides and areas are your top priorities. And make sure you know how to get to them, so you can navigate quickly round the park, especially at the beginning of the day. Aim to do your busiest rides first thing, when the park is quietest, to avoid those really, really long queues.

It’s a good idea to arrive around thirty minutes before the main gates open. That means you are at the front of the crowd to get in, and likely to get to your top priority ride well before the queues have a chance to build.

3.Jump (some of) the Queues for Free

Legoland Windsor has a brilliant app, which you can get for free from your app store. It gives you an interactive map with live queue times. We highly recommend you download it and use it constantly throughout your day. It’ll help you decide which rides to do next, and when to move instead to some of the free activities and quieter areas of the park.

We didn’t purchase any of the priority queuing packages, where you can jump the queue on certain rides. But you’ll definitely need the app if you make these purchases, as the ticket attendants will want to scan your QR code, handily stored on one of the app pages. However, our honest opinion is that the priority queues were not always as sold (especially on the biggest rides) – those guests would jump maybe 80% of the queue, but still have to wait 20-30 minutes. Better than an hour, but still a decent queue time.

4. Some Stuff is Already Free

One of the great things about Legoland Windsor is the range of non-ride activities the park has. You can literally wander around Mini-Land for hours, just looking at the cities of the world that have been rebuilt in Lego.

Or you can take the kids to a water park in Duplo Valley, or a decent adventure play area in the pirate section.

We caught the show at the lake, which you can just rock up to for whatever showing you choose. It’s pretty good and our kids were thoroughly entertained for 20-30 minutes.

You’ll probably want to save these things for the afternoon, when the rides are at their busiest.

5. Share Your Story / Tips

A day at Legoland Windsor can sound daunting. It can be a blackhole for your money and requires a lot of energy. But if you set your own pace and budget, it can also be a lot of fun. Why not see who else you know has been to a theme park recently, and what their tips are? And share your experiences with others, because there’s loads of little hacks worth passing on to make the most of a day trip like this. Planning and research takes a bit of time, but it is well worth it!
