How to Avoid Being in a Bad Family Photo

A bad family photo session can be disappointing, frustrating or hilarious. And if you embrace the chaos, the bad moods and the silliness, you might end up capturing something magical. Here is our story…

Bad Family Photo: When You Just Can't Be Bothered

Luc (aged 5)

There comes a time in every child’s life that they needs to make a stand.

A stand against the bad family photo.

A stand against this need to say “cheese!” in a weird, excessively cheerful way. Not just normally. Like when you are asking for cheese in your sandwich or on toast.

A stand against the tyrannical rule of the parents (and their phones).

And when I say a time. I actually mean there are lots of things I need to take a stand against. Ridiculous things like getting dressed in clothes that match, wearing your coat because its cold, sun-cream – well don’t get me started on sun-cream. Or vegetables.

And bad family photos.

Because is really now the time to take a family photo? Really?

I have just climbed the most enormous hill in my life. And it is really really really hot. And have they let us have ice-cream yet? Nope. They can’t say it’s too cold today, can they?

And I am tired. So when I say take a stand, I actually mean sit down. Because my legs are really really wobbly. I don’t want to say cheese 25 times in a row. I just don’t.

So I will just have to take a stand. In the best way that I know how (and I know quite a few ways) but this one called for one of my best.

Can you guess? Tantrum? Nope. Running off? No. Sorrowful puppy eyes? Not even close.

I’ll let you in on the secret. The thing that irritates Mummy the most. The thing that makes her really really mad is this…

You sit down for the photo. And then just as she is ready to press the button, you close your eyes and scrunch your face up. Maybe even put your hand up to cover up Tomos’ face. Really the possibilities are endless.

I could do this all day!
