Mean wasp attack on terrified child

The Mean Swan Attack and What Happened Next

The summer months are upon us and we are spending more time outdoors. And this leads to a new variety of injuries and illnesses from scrapes, bruises, broken bones to insect bites, wasp and bee stings and even a mean swan attack? Here is our story…

This story is part of our Injuries & Illnesses series.

There Once Was a Mean Swan in our Garden

Luc (Aged 4)

I’m helping Daddy cut the grass. Every time the mower is full its my job to take the box and empty all the grass onto the dump pile. Sometimes the grass blows all over you. It makes Daddy sneeze.

The lawn mower is quite loud and I don’t really like it. It sounds like a big angry bear chasing me. So I sit on my rock at the top of the garden. Safe from all the angry grass eating bears. Or boy eating. I don’t think bears eat boys. But I’m staying on my rock. Just in case.

Ouch! That hurts!

Something just got me and it really really hurts. And again! There’s something under my t-shirt and its hurting me.

I try and shout for Daddy but he’s far away battling the big bear and can’t hear me. Ouch! It got me again.

The rock is very high and I can’t get down. Not with the swan.

“Daddy!” I scream again. That bear must be scared of the swan because he stops growling. My Daddy isn’t scared.

Ouch! There’s a swan in my shoe.

Daddy is coming! He’s running.

He grabs me and pulls t-shirt off – throwing it towards the swan. That’s my favourite t-shirt Daddy. I really hope the swan doesn’t eat it.

Ouch! The swan in my shoe is trying to eat my toes off. Daddy!

Daddy picks me up and starts running for the house. But the swan is chasing us.

Ouch! My shoulder. I think it bit my shoulder. It hurts. I want Mummy.

Daddy wants Mummy too. He is shouting. But I hear the swan getting closer, buzzing close to my head.

We run inside the house and Mummy is here. Daddy is shouting at the swan! Mummy pulls my shoes off and the swan that was eating my toes falls out!

Daddy squashes the swan. Daddy doesn’t like buzzy things. He says swans are the worst.

I think it was “swans”. But he might have called them something else…?
