It's Good to Be Excited

Tomos (Aged 9)

This is hard. My team has lost our first two rugby matches. We’re not as good as some of the other teams. And now there is only one match left. I really want to win this one.

I run into space and J throws the ball to me. And I’m running and nobody grabs me. So I keep running and running and running.

I’m so exhausted and the line seems like it isn’t coming any closer. I can feel the other kids chasing me. I hold the ball tighter and run. Like I have never run before.

And still nobody gets me. I am flying.

And suddenly the line is close and getting close and then I cross it. I scored a try. I scored a try.

I actually scored a try. Me.

My team are celebrating. I look over and Daddy and he is jumping and clapping.

My legs wobble a bit. I don’t think I’ve ever run that fast in my life. I’m exhausted. But I scored. I scored the winning try.
